Boring and honing are processes performed on the cylinder walls/lining, not on the head. Honing is essentially a polishing procedure, used to remove glazing or light surface imperfections that would interfere with the sealing action of the piston and rings. If the cylinder walls are not very smooth, but otherwise OK, honing would create a slight performance gain by improving compression.
